Department of Geology. Lund University Sölvegatan 12 223 62 Lund, Sweden Phone: 046-222 00 00 Fax: 046-222 48 30 Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) depends on a focused electron beam scanned over the surface of a sample. When the beam hits the sample surface, electrons are emitted from a very shallow area around the beam impact point. SEM provides detailed topographic images of the surfaces of cells, tissue and whole organisms that is not possible with TEM. The Master’s programme in geology provides you with cutting-edge expertise that is in demand on the international labour market. This specialisation in the programme provides you with specialist knowledge in biogeology, the research field that investigates the interaction between geological processes and the different ecosystems of Earth. The grain transfer protocol presents a step-by-step guide on how to successfully transfer positioned grains from a single-grain luminescence disc to a scanning electron microscope (SEM) specimen stub and how to transport them between laboratories.

Lawrence Nilsson, Department of Geology, Lund University, Sölvegatan 12, SE 223 62 Lund, Sweden. Earlier papers that defined systems tracts, including Vail (1987) and Posamentier and Vail(1988), placed part of the FSST within the lowstand systems tract (LST). The sediments of this former LST definition included the deposits that accumulated just after the maximum rate of relative sea-level fall. and were divided into three separate depositional units - basin-floor fan, slope fan, and prior to scanning electron microscopy - backscatter electron (SEM-BSE) imaging, energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analyses and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analyses using a Tescan Mira3 High-Resolution Schottky Field Emission (FE)-SEM at Lund University. BSE images, EDS and EBSD data Geological problems and their translation to analytical tasks, electron beam imaging techniques – what is beyond the polarized light microscopy – scanning electron microscopy (SEM) , transmission electron microscopy (TEM), micromorphology and elemental distribution, electron diffraction and crystal structures, electron beam microanalysis (EDX, WDX, EPMA) – chemical composition on the micron level and below, principles of designing analytical protocols/strategies for geological materials.
